No, solar panels work on light and all roofs have light hitting them. East - West roofs typically generate over 80% of an equivalent South facing roof.
Do I Need Planning Permission?
Most cases it is no. Domestic panels are permitted development and do not require permission unless:
- You are in a listed building
- Your home is in a conservation area or area of outstanding natural beauty (solar panels are permitted in a conservation area as long as they are fitted on a wall or roof that faces a main highway
- Panels pertrude more than 200mm from the roof, and we always fit within these limits
