Knowledge is power

We're always just a phone call away to answer your questions
but in the meantime...

Is solar PV the energy solution for me?

Do solar panels need regular maintenance?

Solar panels need very little maintenance.

Making sure that nothing is directly covering the panels to block the sun out will keep them operating at maximum efficiency. Rain cleans most things away, otherwise you can give them a spray with a hose pipe.

Our team will be able answer your questions regarding maintenance.

What size solar system will I need?

This depends on many factors including:

  • How much you want to invest
  • How much electricity your household uses
  • What size your roof is
  • How much energy you want to produce

Our team will be able answer your questions regarding the appropriate size of system

How long do solar panels last?

Most panels come with a 20-25 year manufacturer’s warranty.

However if installed and looked after correctly you should expect them to produce good amounts of electricity for 35 years & beyond.

How do solar panels work?

The panels are made up of small solar cells, which absorb sunlight and turn it into direct current (DC) electricity which is then turned into alternative current (AC) by an inverter – then fed into your power grid

Cost & Benifits

What are the benefits of having solar panels?

Numerous! The main obvious benefits are:

  • They can reduce your electricity bill
  • You become less dependent on Power companies as the solar panels will meet a large part of your electricity needs
  • They may add to the value to your home and make it more marketable should you wish to sell it in the future
  • They reduce your carbon footprint and help you do your part for the environment

What is the cost of a system?

The cost depends on a number of factors such as make, type and size of installation, your needs and requirements and your budget

A more appropriate question would be “What is the long-term VALUE of a system?” as the initial cost is always off-set by the on-going reduction in household running costs

Both the cost and value are entirely dependent on your unique circumstances and requirements

What happens when there is no sunlight?

Keep in mind that Solar PV panels do not need a sunny day to generate electricity.

Even dull days can generate power. When you need more, your system will either draw on your storage batteries if you have them installed, or the national grid in the usual way

Installation

Do I need to inform building control?

Put simply – Leave that to us at SolarStyle.

We are accredited to notify all our work to building control and have the correct procedures and knowledge in place

Do I need planning permission for Solare PV Panels?

In most cases, no.

Domestic Solar PV panels are classed as “permitted development” and do not require permission unless:

Your property is Listed
Your property is in a conservation area or area of outstanding natural beauty
Panels protrude more than 200mm from the wall or roof edge (we always fit panels within this limit, no matter what)
Solar PV panels are permitted in a conservation area as long as a few rules are followed to minimise the effect on the appearance of the building and area

Do I need a south facing roof?

No.

Solar PV panels work on light and all roofs have light hitting them no matter in what direction they face

East<>West roofs typically generate over 80% of the power generated by an equivalent South facing roof. We would not recommend installing solar PV panels on North facing roofs

I rent my property, can I have Solar PV Panels?

Possibly, but you will likely need your Landlord’s permission

Solar PV

Solar Panels, also known as Solar PhotoVoltaic (PV), generate inexpensive, green electricity by converting sunlight into electrical power.
